A force acting on a body may

Force may be defined as a type of interaction that changes or tends to change the state of rest or motion of an object.

Effects of Force

  • It can change the motion of the body, i.e. if the body is at rest force may set the motion in it, and if the body is in motion.
  • The force may accelerate or retard its motion. It may retard the forces already acting on a body and bring the body to rest or equilibrium.
  • It may produce internal stresses in the body upon which it acts.
  • It balances all the forces acting on the body so that body will remain in equilibrium.
  • It can move a stationary body.
  • It can change the direction, shape, and size of a body.
