Which of the following is a disadvantage of the plane table survey?
It is a graphical method of surveying in which field work and plotting are done simultaneously. A clinometer is used in conjunction with a plane table to plot the contours of the area and for filling in the details. This method of surveying is very advantageous as there is no possibility of omitting any necessary measurement, the field being in view while plotting. The details like boundaries, shore lines, etc. can be plotted exactly to their true shapes, being in view.
(i) Plane table survey is a tropical instrument hence It is not suitable to work in a wet climate due to rainfall.
(ii) It is also very difficult to proceed with work due to high wind.
(iii) Plane table survey is unsuitable for densely wooded areas.
(iv) Only daytime plotting of maps is possible, but in other types of surveying, maps can be plotted at night also.
(v) It is not useful for large-scale surveys.
(vi) Plane table survey is not very accurate.
(vii) The equipment used in this survey is heavy and cumbersome. Several accessories are to be carried with the equipment.
(viii) As no field data is recorded. it becomes difficult to plot the map on different scales.
(ix) Time spent in this survey is much more than other types of surveying.
(x) It requires an open country for easy sight of the stations.
(xi) For drawing contours in extensive areas, it is inferior to photogrammetry.
