In induction generator operation the slip is always Negative.

The slip of an induction generator is defined as S = (Ns - Nr) / Ns

where

Ns is the synchronous speed of the rotating magnetic field produced by the stator

Nr is the actual speed of the rotor.

In generator operation, a prime mover (such as a turbine or engine) drives the rotor above the synchronous speed.

Therefore, Nr > Ns, and the slip S is negative. The negative slip indicates that the rotor speed is slightly lower than the synchronous speed of the stator's rotating magnetic field.
