According to IRC (Indian Roads Congress), what is the maximum stripping value of aggregate to be used in bituminous construction like surface dressing?
A stripping value test is conducted to determine the effects of moisture on the property of adhesion of the aggregate with different types of bituminous binders.
Thus, this test is of significant value to ascertain the suitability of the two materials viz. bitumen (binder) and aggregates, because one particular aggregate may be satisfied with one binder and unsatisfactory with another; the same being true for the binders.
IRC has specified that the stripping value of the aggregate value of 25%; when aggregate is coated with bitumen in an immersed water bath at 40°C for 24 h.
