A car moving in a straight line is NOT a projectile motion.

Types of Motion

Rectilinear motion:- When a body moves in a straight line it is said to be in rectilinear motion. A car moving on a straight road and an athlete running on a straight track are examples of bodies in rectilinear motion.

Rotational motion When a body moves but all its parts do not move the same distance in the given time, like a rotating fan or a giant wheel, the motion is said to be rotational motion. As in the case of a rotating fan, the outer portion of the blade will make a bigger circle than the inner portion of the blade. Turning on and off a tap or a gas cylinder knob are examples of rotational motion.

Projectile motion:

• A kind of motion that is experienced by an object when it is projected near the Earth's surface and it moves along a curved path under the action of gravitational force.
• Projectile motion is the motion of an object thrown or projected into the air, subject to only the acceleration of gravity. The object is called a projectile, and its path is called its trajectory.
• In case of a stone thrown in any direction, a stone thrown horizontally from a building, and a bullet fired from a gun are subjected to only gravitational force. But in the case of a car moving in a straight line is a rectilinear type of motion.
