The possible loading in various members of framed structures are

  • Frame structures consisting of several bars or members in one plane so pinned together as to form a rigid system, the various members are not limited to the action of forces applied at their ends only.
  • The bars composing framed structures are subjected to bending as well as simple tension or compression and are called flexure members.
  • The general problem in the analysis of a frame structure under given loading is to find the magnitudes and directions (or more often the rectangular components) of the forces transmitted from one member to another through the connecting pins.
