Flooded evaporator:- The evaporator is said to be flooded type if liquid refrigerant covers the entire heat transfer surface. This type of evaporator uses a float type of expansion valve.

Dry evaporator: An evaporator is called dry type when a portion of the evaporator is used for superheating the refrigerant vapor after its evaporation.

The refrigeration effect defines the amount of cooling produced by a system.

The advantage of the flooded evaporator is that the whole surface of the evaporator coil is in contact with the liquid refrigerant under all load conditions. Thus, it gives high heat transfer rates (i.e. more efficient cooling) than a dry expansion evaporator of the same size.
