  • To turn off a thyristor, the anode current must be reduced below a certain value known as the holding current.
  • The holding current is the minimum current required to maintain the thyristor in the on state.
  • When the anode current falls below the holding current, the thyristor will turn off because the current flowing through the device is no longer sufficient to maintain the necessary positive feedback between the PNP and NPN layers of the device.
  • Once the thyristor turns off, it will remain in the off state until the next positive gate pulse is applied.
