A man was travelling half of the total distance at a speed of 30 km/h and the rest distance at a speed of 50 km/h. What was the average speed of the man on his whole journey?
Average speed when distance covered is same = 2xy/(x + y)
Where, x = Speed for the first half
y = Speed for the remaining half
Average speed = 2 × 30 × 50/(30 + 50) km/hr
⇒ 3000/80 km/hr
⇒ 37.5 km/hr
∴ The average speed for the whole journey is 37.5 km/hr
