  • Two alternators A and B are sharing an inductive load equally. If the excitation of alternator A is increased then Alternator A will deliver more current.
  • If the excitation of alternator A is increased while two alternators A and B are sharing an inductive load equally, then both alternators will not deliver the same current.
  • Increasing the excitation of alternator A will increase its terminal voltage, which will cause it to deliver more current to the shared load.
  • At the same time, the increased terminal voltage of alternator A will also cause a higher voltage drop across the shared inductive load, which will cause the terminal voltage of alternator B to decrease.
  • This decrease in terminal voltage will cause alternator B to deliver less current to the shared load.
  • Therefore, alternator A will deliver more current to the shared load, and alternator B will deliver less current, resulting in an imbalance in the load sharing between the two alternators.
  • To restore the load sharing between the two alternators, the excitation of alternator B must be increased as well, so that its terminal voltage and current delivery to the shared load are increased.
